It was Abingdon 4×4 Festival at the weekend, which is an absolutely superb event aimed at both complete novices and more experienced off-roaders as well as providing a great day for visitors who turn up in a normal car (but are guaranteed to leave wanting a 4×4!). It’s hosted on MoD land near Abingdon that’s usually totally off-limits to the public and put on by a huge group of volunteers with one purpose, to raise as much money as possible for the local air ambulance. I miss just two things about London, cycling in Epping Forest and Pie&Mash. Just had a good helping of one though….

It was a very early start on Thursday 17th September as despite being at my brother’s house in NE London and therefore not being that far away, London traffic can be an unknown quantity. As it happens traffic was light and we arrived nice and early at Old Palace Yard, a small courtyard opposite the House of Lords, which we’d got special permission from the Met Police to use. Went out on a Sunday morning ride with my neighbour Jon who is usually an excellent riding companion, but for the last half of today’s route he was shooting off ahead.
